Can atheists also wear cross necklaces? my friend got one for her birthday but she doesn’t have a religion. If she wears it anyways, what does this mean?

Question by Deano: Are there meanings for individual celtic knots or do all celtic knots essentially mean the same thing?
I’ve been looking for what different kinds of celtic knots represent but I can’t get anything concrete. There are some overarching archetypes like how a square knot represents protection and how the Trinity Knot has it’s own set of meanings…but are there certain knots that represent more specific things or do they all basically represent the same thing? For example, is there one that symbolizes family? Or good health? Or loyalty? Stuff like that. And if so, could someone direct me to some pictures?

It may be a custom design.
It may not have a specific name, and probably does not have a specific meaning.
Some celtic knots are purely decorative designs.

The Fleur De Lis Cross is from France. The national symbol of France used to be the Fleur De Lis.

Celtic Twisted Knot Cross, is culturally influenced by the Celts, Irish usually but the Scoots and the Welsh are also Celts. There are also pockets of Celts throughout europe.

A general rule of thumb is: the shape of the design often determines the “meaning” of a knotwork design- triskele and trefoil shapes should be regarded as triskeles, bird, fish, and animal designs represent the attributes of the animal, etc. Circles represent unity or eternity, spirals reincarnation or cycles of life and rebirth, triangles and trefoils the threefold dominions of earth, sea, and sky. Squares or four-fold shapes are shield knots, symbols of protection from spirits or malevolent influence. Interlaced animals and men usually represent relationships, or emphasize the interdependence of mankind and nature.
